זו קבוצה של הידרתייםללא שלב הפוליפ או שלב פוליפ מופחת ושונה מאוד. מדוזות עם פעמון מורכב של מסה של ג'לי
 בצורת עדשה וצדדים דקים בהרבה, זרועות הנמצאות מעל שולי הפעמון, לא תפיחות טנטקולריות, מרווח פעמון מאונך,
 בטן גדולה, לא יוצר מונוביום מובחן, ללא תעלות רדיאליות; סטטוציסטים כמעט תמיד חיצוניים, ממקור אנדו-אקטודרמי.
בעיקר צורות של הים הפתוח ומים עמוקים יותר. 
Hydrozoa without polyp stage or only very reduced and modified polyp stage. Medusae with bell composed
of a lens-shaped mass of jelly and much thinner sides, tentacles inserting above bell margin,
no tentacular bulbs, bell margin lobed, stomach big, not forming a distinct manubrium,
without radial canals; Statocysts almost always external, of endo-ectodermal origin.
Predominantly forms of the open sea and deeper waters.

פוליפ. אברי הרבייה על התעלות הרדיאליות. מינים של מים פתוחים או מעמקים
Medusa bell hemispherical to higher than broad, margin not lobed, mostly with 8 radial
canals. gonads on radial canals . Polyp stage absent, development direct.
Open sea or deeper waters.

Trachymedusae with gastric peduncle; 4 radial canals, sometimes more; with centripetal
canals; gonads flat cushions on radial canals; two kinds of marginal
tentacles, solid and hollow. with two types of vesicles. Some harmful.
